By Captain Jeffery Daday Jr.
March 16, 2018

On March 15th, 2018 at 11:49 a.m the Croton Falls Fire Department was dispatched for a residential fire alarm at 15 Turkey Hill Road. Engine 149, which is quartered in the North Salem firehouse on Titicus Road, was first due and upon arrival quickly noticed smoke coming from the eaves of a two-and-a-half story home. Engine 148, responding from the Croton Falls firehouse, arrived shortly after Engine 149, and crews from the engines worked together to gain entry to the residence and stretch a hose line.

Once inside, crews found a smoke condition with no visible fire. Firefighters quickly searched the residence for the source of the smoke and any occupants. Based upon the conditions a 10-75 (working fire) was transmitted, which brought mutual aid companies with additional equipment and firefighters. While continuing their investigation, firefighters found fire in the walls and quickly knocked down the fire to minimize damage. The crew from South Salem's Engine 167 checked the first floor for any extension of the fire while Bedford Hills' Tower Ladder 57 crew checked the attic for extension.

After the quick knock down of the fire, investigators from the Westchester County Cause and Origin Team conducted an investigation and determined the fire was accidental in nature: an electrical outlet on an outside wall shorted and caused a fire in the wall that spread.

Units from the Mahopac and Somers Fire Departments stood by at the Croton Falls firehouse, and handled an additional alarm in North Salem. All units cleared the fire scene at 2:02 p.m.
